Osteodomus (meaning "bone-house") is 4-8 inches long beachcombing crab-like creature resembling a hermit-crab. It is 4-8 inch long (10.1-20.3 centimeters).
Facts[]
Crawling over rocks and flitting through tidal pools were many various crustaceans, like copepods, wood lice, shrimp, crabs, crayfish and countless others, most were familiar species, but Skull Island had its oddballs too, not least among them the chunky hermit crab Osteodomus.
Large for a hermit and easily rivally Coconut Crabs in size, the biggest individuals had difficulty locating shells of sufficient size to fit. Innovative little opportunists, they made use of anything that even vaguely fit the bill, including hollowed bones, giving the species its name. It was not uncommon to see a seal skull scuttling over the rocks with spiky legs protruding.
Trivia[]
- Unlike the majority of animals from Skull Island, it is highly likely that Osteodomus survived the island's sinking as they were excellent swimmers and could live in the salty oceans.
