Sepulcro (Sepulcrostium malus, meaning "ugly gravemouth") is a 4-5 feet long (1.2-1.5 meters) predatory fish from Skull Island.

Facts[]

Sepulcro was capable of an impressive gape. Even fish or other aquatic animals close to its own size were sometimes taken, the stomach being expandable to admit very large prey close to their own size.

Sepulcro shared its feeding habits with the similar Papilio. Both would wait in the silty waters of the riverbed before striking at schools of fish swimming overhead.

Like Papilio and the smaller Rhadamanthus, it is likely that Sepulcro evolved from Anglerfishes and grew to incredibly large sizes.

Trivia[]

  • It is unknown why Sepulcro and Papilio share not only the same hunting habits, but the same environment and living space, as this would result in an unsustainable fight for resource competition, with very little niche partitioning.
  • Like all animals from Skull Island. It is unknown what they faced during the sinking of the island. Given the multiple expeditions, there may be a chance that a few surviving populations was saved off-land to a more stable enclosure.
