The Shagfish (Estrichthys hirsutus, meaning "shaggy glutton-fish") is a fish native to skull island's waterways, similar to a grenadier in appearance.
Facts[]
Shagfish are so named because of its shaggy appearances. However these aren't hair follicles but highly evolved fins made to resemble the weeds and vegetation that grows in the marshes, swamps and rivers of Skull Island.
Indeed, the Shagfish is an ambush predator, not unlike Rhadamanthus or Segnix, following the same mouth designs as these fishes which allows them to perform efficient suction feeding if prey is close. Although it resembles these fishes, it is unknown if the Shagfish is in anyway related to Anglerfishes or a case of convergent evolution.
Trivia[]
- Given its appearance, it is possible that Shagfish is a small offshoot of a pufferfish.
- Like all animals from Skull Island. It is unknown what they faced during the sinking of the island. Given the multiple expeditions, there may be a chance that a few surviving populations was saved off-land to a more stable enclosure.
