Science facts

Styracosaurus is a genus of ceratopsian dinosaur. Fossils of this genus date to the Late Cretaceous period, where they are found in Campanian aged strata, between 75.5 and 75 million years ago, in Alberta, Canada.

It has four to six long horns extending from its neck frill, a smaller horn on each of its cheeks, and a single horn protruding from its nose, which may have been up to 60 centimeters (2 ft) long and 15 centimeters (6 in) wide. The function or functions of the horns and frills have been debated for many years.

History

King Kong (1933 film)

The Styracosaurus appeared in film "King Kong" (from 1933). It was in a deleted scene where he chased the crew to the log bridge. He, like lots of the other dinosaurs, ate a member of the crew. He also trapped them on the bridge, and with Kong on the other side, they couldn't escape. In the final cut, the Styracosaurus was deleted from the movie because it took too much attention from Kong.

Son of Kong (1933 film)

Corners Hellstrom, Englehorn and Charlie into a cave in Son of Kong, destroying one of their guns. When the island was sinking the Styracosaurus was one of the creatures that escaped with the Cave Bear and Elasmosaurus (offscreen), but the other creatures died with the Son of Kong.
