Crewmember of the SS Venture |
[Source] |
This individual, only known as the Fifth Venture Crewman, was a sailor who was part of the SS Venture's crew. He was part of the search party that looked for Ann Darrow when she and the SS Venture's crew made land on Skull Island, where she was taken away by a massive ape known as Kong.
He survives the first halves of the conflicts that arose in their expedition, up until the middle conflict, where the crew attempted to cross a large swamp that was near Kong's domain. On the craftly-made raft behind Ben Hayes, their raft was attacked by a massive Piranhadon that destroyed their raft. Caught in it, he was swimming in the waters of the swamp. He swam behind all of the others who found a shore nearby, but he was too late to the shore, where the Piranhadon caught him in its jaws, and drags him underwater to his death.
He was portrayed by Stephen Hall.
Biography[]
The man was hired by Carl Denham to an expedition to Singapore (whom unbeknownst to him and the rest of the crew, were actually going to Skull Island). During the dance he beat a drum while Choy sung Mhairi's Wedding and enjoyed watching Ann Darrow and Jimmy dance together.
Once Ann Darrow was given sacrifice to a giant ape called Kong, Captain Englehorn deployed a crew to find her, with this crewman being part of the Search Party.
Entering the dark forest of Skull Island, several birds frightened one of the sailors, which caused an angry Ferrucutus to storm out of the dead bush and attack the crew, hitting several sailors, where the fifth Venture crewman survived without being hit by the angry ceratopsian. Afterwards, the crew wandered through a rainforest creek full of giant dragonflies, where they eventually wandered into a temple-like gorge, where they rested for a few moments, where he and the crew find a large footprint of Kong. Eventually, the gorge is rumbling with rocks falling, where the Crewman points his firearm above. Eventually, Bruce Baxter comes running past them, with the Crewman running behind the rest of his colleagues in the gorge. He runs behind and alongside Jimmy, where he and the crew manage to climb up a steep rocky hill, where they quickly rest by the swamp.
After the crew manages to build two rafts, they cross through the swamp, where they ward off a couple of Scorpio-pedes before a larger and more dangerous Piranhadon came and destroyed their raft, sending the Crewman swimming in deep open murky waters. Flailing in the water, the other crewmen found a shore where they came to rest, exhausted and relieved. This crewman was unlucky however, as he swam too late to come to the shore, where he was snatched and devoured in the jaws of the Piranhadon, where it dragged him to his watery death, screaming and thrashing about.
As he is being devoured to death, Carl Denham recorded his death on his filming camera much to a baffled Lumpy.

Behind the scenes[]
- The crewman was portrayed by Stephen Hall in the Peter Jackson's 2005 version of King Kong.
- His death was cut from the theatrical version of the movie (as the whole swamp attack scene was cut) but can be seen in the extended edition of the movie.
- In the scene where he is devoured, his shirt is brown as opposed to blue. It more than likely it was an attempt at darkening his clothes due to being in water, not to mention his suspenders and such are not present when he is devoured.
- Stephen Hall had also work with Todd Rippon, Chirs Bailey, Crawford Thomson, Ray Woolf, and Matthew Chamberlain in Hercules and Xenia as different characters.
Appearances[]
