''Deinacrida rex'', related to the Wetas of distant New Zealand, an ocean away, are huge prehistoric crickets that vastly outsize their antipodean cousins. Appropriately dubbed Weta-rexes, they are not shy herbivores, but are instead ferocious, pack-hunting predators that make their homes in the caves and chams of [[Skull Island]]. Growing to be 2 to 3 feet long, they swarm in huge numbers, and overwhelm/wear down any prey they come across. They are even capable of shredding the largest dinosaurs on the island to pieces with a thousand pairs of shearing mouthparts.
